[Dec 26, 2010] Your favourite charity, Adarshmay works closely with Rotaract and they had invited our children to participate in the launch of the World Responsible Youth Week. K. C. College, Churchgate, Mumbai. Had a great time with Rtr Ankit and DRR Rtr Hari!

Their Director of NGO Relations - Rtr Sakshi invited and herself picked up the kids from our Center and took us all on a joyride to the launch.

We look forward to many more successful programs with Rotaract Zone 2B especially with the staunch support of Zonal Rotaract Representative Rtr Gautam Lulla.

A big thank you to all Rotaractors and Rotarians who visit and support Adarshmay activities regularly! Especially the Inner Wheel Club of Juhu! :)

[Nov 20, 2010] Adarshmay kids participated in Balakalakaar 2010 and joined over 2000 kids from all over Mumbai in drawing and making greeting cards. Good fun!

However, due to inclement weather we had to miss out on some fun in the afternoon session.

Idu & Urja got to go on the stage and get individual, hands-on training from the trainer!

There was sumptuos kichhdi provided by ISKCON for lunch and the post-lunch session had a dance competition and various other activities.

[Nov 17, 2010] We concluded the Donate-a-word campaign by celebrating Rahul Karwa's birthday and Bakri Eid at our center! Rahul Sir and Payal Maam came to the center with the real world equivalents of all the words that were donated by email and added lots of goodies of their own too!!

Rahul Sir sang for the kids, and the kids too loved them so much that they gifted their favourite stuffed toy to Rahul. "Bluey" - the dolphin, still adorns their car!

The lovely couple even took the kids on a joyride in the car! We eagerly await their next trip

Happy Fellowship Day

posted Oct 26, 2010 6:01 AM by Ashish Pawaskar   [ updated Oct 26, 2010 6:19 AM ]

Adarshmay celebrated Fellowship Day with its children by doing a community good turn on October 24th.

We contacted and requested our family, friends and well wishers, to donate their old but wearable clothes, handbags, footwear to us. These collected items were then "sold" to the local community for a throwaway price of Rs 25/- per item. We "SELL" the items to make sure that only those people who really need them will BUY them from us.

From the money generated (approx Rs 800/-) we invited the senior citizens from the community and organised a party for them. The children interacted with them and both the old and the young had a lot of fun!!

Fellowship Day is organised by each Unit/Guild on October 24/25 corresponding to United Nations Day (October 24th) and the date of the Foundation of the International Scout & Guide Fellowship (October 25th)

We hope you all had a wonderful & happy fellowship day!

Wish you all a Happy Dussehra

Your favourite NGO, Adarshmay, celebrated Dussehra with its kids today! Our benevolent guide, Prema aunty generously sponsored the refreshments for the day. The kids gathered at 3:00 pm and the event started off with the prayer.

After greetings and attendance, there was a Q&A session on Dussehra and the significane of Navratri and the burning of Ravana. A little bit of geography for explaining the location of Kolkata and the directions - east, west, north & south made it more interesting!

Our kids now know that Dussehra signifies the victory of Good over Evil and that it originated in Kolkata, which is in West Bengal in the Eastern part of India. They also know that Dandiya which is a dance played during Navratri is actually of Gujarati origin. Gujarati means people of Gujarat which is next to Maharashtra to the North. They also know that dandiya is played with sticks, while Garba Rass is payed using the hands to clap.

After the information exchange, since we did not have enough dandiya, we decided to play Garba Rass. Ruchita took over arranging the kids in circles and guiding them to dance, but many of the children did not know the steps. So I, Ashish Pawaskar, took an impromptu dance class for the kids explaining the basic steps involved and making the practise.

Then as we do not have a music system (hint!), we had two kids beat a upside down bucket for music, and they were talented too! All played the Garba Rass and had a lot of fun.

After the dance while we were resting sitting down, we had the kids revise the teachings of the week, ABCD, 1234 names of fruits vegetables, etc. The older kids acted as teachers and recited it all very well!

Then it was time for the Party!!! The kids divided them into groups and some took over pouring of the Mango Juice while some filled the paper plates with wafers and samosas (a savoury indian snack) and ofhter distributed Parle G Glucose biscuit packs to everyone.

We had brought enough stuff for 45 kids, but more than that turned up for the party, so some had to go without Samosas. But they all had great fun and loved every bit of it.

After the kids went the older kids (volunteers!) had their fill and it was a satisfying end to a fruitful day!

"The good prevails, the evil vanishes, sorrow withers away, joy conquers the heart.
Wishing all a dussehra that is a celebration of all the victories in your life.
May Durga- The Holy Deity bless you all!!"

Happy Dussehra!

Joy of Giving - Annapoorna launched!

posted Oct 7, 2010 11:09 PM by Ashish Pawaskar   [ updated Dec 16, 2010 11:27 AM ]

[Oct-03-2010]
During the past week - the Joy of Giving Week from Sept 26-Oct 2, Friends of Adarshmay donated over 350 kilos of dry grains like Rice, Tur dal & Sugar.

Our activities are designed to increase the incentive for students to participate in the after school classes we conduct or the numerous training sessions we conduct.

To this end, we decided that under the Annapoorna Scheme, children with over 70% attendance in the classes will receive the foodgrains free of cost, however to ensure that those who could not attend do not get left out, we decided to provide the food grain at 50% of market cost to those who could not or did not attend regularly.

Kailash Thakur of LEAD Foundation joined us to help out with the Foodgrain Distribution Program as also did Ms Prema Mansharamaney (Prema Aunty!) who donated Tur dal for the event!

The distribution bought smiles on the faces of both the children and their parents! We had discussions with parents about their kids and how we were helping them be better citizens.

The subsequent subsidised sale was mind blowing!! The news spread like wild fire and the stuff was exhausted in 10 mins flat!! With people wanting more and more!! They are now eagerly awaiting the next distribution day!!

The support of our Friends like Priyanjali, Pareta, Richa, Neepa, Poonam Aunty, Prema Aunty, Usha aunty, Rtr Jigar & Gagan, Pramodji and others prompted us to make this scheme a permanent one.

Help us expand this program! Donate food grains to the Annapoorna Scheme!
